AMI-Affiliated Faculty Members Win NSF CAREER Awards

Congratulations to Dr. Nilesh Kumar, assistant professor of metallurgical & materials engineering, and Dr. Tibor Szilvasi, assistant professor of chemical & biological engineering, at The University of Alabama, for their designation as 2023 National Science Foundation (NSF) CAREER awardees.

Per NSF, “The Faculty Early Career Development (CAREER) Program is a Foundation-wide activity that offers the National Science Foundation’s most prestigious awards in support of early-career faculty who have the potential to serve as academic role models in research and education and to lead advances in the mission of their department or organization.”

Dr. Kumar’s grant aims at developing innovative methods to enhance the understanding and prediction for the longevity of structures affected by stress corrosion cracking. This research is specifically supported within the Division of Materials Research – Metals and Metallic Nanostructures.

Dr. Szilvasi’s grant addresses computational discovery of new molecular catalysts through micro-kinetic modeling.  This award is supported through the Chemistry Division – Chemical Catalysis.
