ABOUT

The University of Alabama is a forward-thinking leader in materials science. We empower researchers to make transformative discoveries that solve some of the most pressing challenges in energy, sustainability, health, and national defense.

About

The Alabama Materials Institute facilitates interdisciplinary materials research encompassing metallography, ceramics, polymers, bio-inspired materials, and composites.

Teams of researchers, faculty, and students work collaboratively to identify and advance new materials, understand their fundamental properties, and develop novel processes for synthesis, fabrication and manufacturing using advanced experimental and computational approaches.

In that endeavor, the Alabama Materials Institute supports synergistic core facilities and affiliated research centers in these thematic areas.

From the Executive Director

Welcome to the Alabama Materials Institute. AMI coalesces groups of multidisciplinary faculty, professional staff, and students to perform cutting-edge, high-impact materials discovery. It also serves to advocate and support materials-focused research centers and associated activities on the campus of The University of Alabama.

The state of Alabama has a strong primary metals industry, chemical industry, and manufacturing sector in auto, water, and aerospace, all of which depend on ever-increasing advanced materials. AMI serves to support the state and the nation in these endeavors.

We look forward to sharing with you our impact and invite you to be part of our success.
