UA Materials Science Students Recognized for High-Impact Contributions

Materials science students at Materials Science Symposium

A contingent of University of Alabama materials science graduate students participated in in the annual UA-UAH-UAB Materials Science Symposium held at the Advanced Manufacturing Innovation and Integration Center on the campus of UA-Huntsville.

The symposium hosted both a poster as well as oral presentation sessions. Through this event students, faculty, industrial, and federal laboratory researchers were able to discuss a variety of advancements in metals, ceramics, composites, and additive manufacturing, to name a few topics, among each other. Through this symposium, it provides an ideal venue to facilitate collaborations within the state of Alabama.

Congratulations to Cole Gilleland and Monowar Hossain, Materials Science PhD students at UA, for their award-winning posters entitled “Coupled Optical-Electron Microscopy Methods for Rapid Analysis of Dispersoid Effects within Additive Manufactured Refractories” and “Study on microstructural variations and mechanical properties anisotropy through the thickness of a X70 thick gauge linepipe steel,” respectively.

The campus of The University of Alabama will be hosting the symposium in 2025.
